  1. Ive got 2 PS2s, one from launch and a US model later.

Oddly enough, it’s hooked up to my TV right now. (Replaying some old games).

  2. It’s important to note that the reason the ps2 is #1 is that Sony purposely sold the console at a loss to make it the cheapest DVD player on the market at the time. it was an amazingly smart move and it obviously paid off.

  3. The Xbox One number is fishy here because Microsoft stopped publicly releasing their units sold in 2015.

    That number comes from

    >Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad estimated 41 million units were sold by the end of 2018.[[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_game_consoles#cite_note-IGN_PSP_estimate_2-26)

Which is basically just a number they probably pulled out of their ass. Also, this a dataset come from [here]( [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_game_consoles](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_game_consoles) )

Same is true for PS4 sales noted. Sony stopped publicly releasing their numbers in 2012. Although it does appear they did randomly release some numbers this year which is odd.

  4. In standard reddit style, I will not rant about something that doesn’t fucking matter.

    “Famicon”.

    It’s Famicom. “FAMily COMputer”.

Usually, this is just a mistake. But I’ve seen people use it intentionally.

The logic, for them, is that The Japanese name is ファミコン, which, phonetically, is “famikon”. So “famicon” is technically a romanization that would work for the way they say it in Japanese. Ignoring that this is weeaboo level bullshit, the japanese name is shortening two japanese words, which translate themselves to the words emblazoned, in English on the japanese system – “Family computer”.

There is also the fact that even if one could argue that the “Family Computer” is ambiguous for how it should officially be shortened… the Super Famicom literally says “Super Famicom” on it.

  5. There’s a reason I am still actively playing PS2 games in 2019.

No other console comes close to it in regards to well made JRPG games.

  6. How were so many people blind to the greatness of the GameCube? It didn’t even sell enough to make it onto this chart but damn if it didn’t have some of the greatest games of all time on it

  7. Sad to see Xbox One get shit on by Sony, but that’s what happens when you fuck up a reveal launch with always online, COD, Sports, TV, and other unnecessary bullshit. Xbox One has improved 1000% since then but they were never able to take back or even come close to Sony. Here’s hoping the next Xbox, Project Scarlet, will be much more of a direct competitor with Sony. I don’t think MS is gonna fuck up the launch again. They seemed to have learned their lesson.

  8. The PS4 might actually be my favorite console of all time. It’s definitely giving the PS2 a run for it’s money in my book. If the PS4 had a few more JRPGs it would win in my book.

  9. It’s sad how this sub can’t give the playstation brand any credit. Take out the handhelds from this list and you see the true dominance of those systems. I don’t get you guys reluctance to give those systems the respect they deserve. Everyone wants to pretend it was because of the cheap DVD or BluRay hardware but that is BS.

  10. Two of my favourites are at the bottom

I’m shocked by how low the N64 was. It seemed like everyone had one back then

  11. Does that count the entire Xbox One generation (OG, S and X)? Those numbers do seem a bit low… either that or I’m in denial about just how popular my platform of choice is…

  12. Pretty sure this is out of date as I believe the Switch has sold way more than the Xbone. (Update: I was thinking of Japanese sales figures).
