  1. Any game can be played for at least a decade when it has mod support. Hell, Morrowind is still getting new mods to this day.

  2. Here’s the quote:

    >”The one thing [the gap] does is people are still playing Skyrim, it’s still one of the best-selling games. I know people joke about it online, but it’s one of the best-selling games on Switch. Anything we put it out on, it becomes a hit game. And they love it, they still play it, it’s almost infinitely playable, all of the mods and everything like that. And we’re 8 years post-Skyrim. It lets us know going into Elder Scrolls 6 that this is a game we need to design for people to play for a decade at least, at least.”

  3. Games that are exceptional will be played for a decade at least.

Games that are DESIGNED to be played for a decade… I will pass.

  4. Just another in the long line of video game devs that’s simultaneously responsible for the towering highs and the festering lows of the industry.

It’s more unfortunate than a dickless billygoat.

  5. P.R. talk for games as a service. Prepare for the Septims shop where can buy seasonal armor skins add ons for the always on line village building mechanic.

  6. I hope this doesn’t mean they’ll promise something like Anthem cataclysm and we’re going to wait for it for a decade.

  7. If TES 6 turns out any good i will eat rotten shark meat and publicly say i like Todd and that he is a good, talented, trustworthy man.

  8. With the direction bethesda has been going, I dread what is coming. I fully expect the game to be a live service and they kill off mods to try and make you buy their creation club bullshit. On top of that, I expect the game to be like fallout 4, a huge open boring world, bare bones, and just about every quest to be stupid auto generated shit with a forgettable main quest with less content than the previous games and made on the shitty rebranded gamebryo engine.

  9. The headline is not quite what Todd said. He basically said that people are still playing Skyrim and with mods it’s infinitely playable. Then he said this quote.
    > It lets us know going into Elder Scrolls 6 that this is a game we need to design for people to play for a decade at least, at least.

He said they **NEED** to design it to be played that long. That’s not a bad aspiration. Trouble is, people are now skeptical of what Todd says after talking up how expansive and great 76 would be.

  10. When I hear this, I only think of Fallout 76 saying similar things with free content updates for the life of the game.

  11. Without Mods people would have stopped playing it in 2012. I remember my first Playthrough. After like 140hrs I quit and it took me until 2013 before I started playing again and discovered all the Mods and now I’m at 2700hrs. But without Mods I would never have touched it again.

  12. “Modders will be working for at least a decade to fix our broke shit.”

I don’t mind buying repetitive crap (simple games that I somehow manage to always enjoy), but I really wish they’d at least dump their engine.

  13. Translation: We will be re-releasing it on every platform for a full decade after it’s released. Coming soon, play Elder Scrolls 6 on your smart fridge!

  14. I really really believe that they need:

    A) New Writers

    B) More developers (relatively small for a Triple A company)

    C) Look at their roots (Daggerfall, Morrowind & Oblivion)

    D) A change of certain philosophies and mindsets. E.g their add something new remove something old philosophy.

Hopefully Fallout 4 & 76 has created a bit of a culture shift within Bethesda, hopefully.
