  1. im confused. entertainment is considered an addiction? so i can have a lawsuit against minecraft and the civilization games?

edit after actually reading the article:

so they claim that epic hired a psychologist to figure out how to make the game more addictive. i wouldnt be surprised if the wording on epics side that they hired a psychologist to figure out how to make the game more appealing.

  2. >“They knew that their game was very attractive, yet they did not divulge the risks to the population,” Caron told 98.5 FM radio’s Paul Arcand in an interview Friday morning. “It’s a little like tobacco.”

    lmao

  3. I mean then you could sue all the stores and casinos as well, because they manipulate consumer behavior with product placement and smells etc, which all included psychologists to work out at one point in time.

  4. Wow, games should be banned until studies can be done on them. I’m sure this subreddit would be very happy

  5. I’m addicted to hockey and Civilization so I guess that’s grounds for some juicy lawsuits against the NHL and Firaxis for knowingly pushing such addicting products on me.

  6. Wrong target, if you want anything done at all, you lobby your government to regulate it, you can’t sue people for making things addictive.

You *can* sue people for selling a product that was dangerous/harmful without warning them, like tobacco. But Fortnite isn’t inherently dangerous or harmful – addictions are, bad posture is, etc.

  7. Isn’t this an episode of Boston Legal?

Every advertisement is designed, by physiologists, to attract and allure you. To use your biology against you, effectively. Hot women with big tits probably do a better job of trying to sell me addictive things like alcohol and cigarettes when i was under 18 then not hot women. Are we saying that should be illegal?

  8. All I can say is good this company needs to go under just look at their bbb rating it shows how they do not care about customers just money.

  9. I hate fortnite and im from quebec but seriously, fuck off iwth those lawsuit.
Save your money and time to tackle loot box.

  10. Now, I am all for shitting all over corporations that take exploitative measures when fleecing consumers of their hard-earned money, but this:

    > As for the 15-year-old, he has played more than 7,000 games in about two years, Caron said. The boy often goes to sleep at 3 a.m. on weekends and at 1 a.m. on weeknights as a result, he said.

This is a failure of parenting. You can stop your kids from buying games. Yes, they are addictive. Yes, they use gambling mechanics and get you sucked in. But you are responsible for the health and wellbeing of your child. Where did they get the money to buy thousands of games if not from mom and dad’s credit cards?

By all means sue Epic and other greedy gaming companies for their thinly-disguised gambling mechanics but don’t blame them because your kid goes to bed at 3am. That’s on you!

  11. I mean, no shit. They’ve hired psychologists for a decade now. R&D goes mostly to making their games more addictive for microtransactions these days.
