If Microsoft’s key tagline for Minecraft was that “Minecraft is ‘Better Together,'” how come the Original Minecraft Users on Java Minecraft can’t play with Windows 10 users?

  1. They claim it’s incompatibility. I would guess likely somewhere in the networking engine. That said they could very likely create a wrapper for the new network setup that is at least at an ALI later compatible with the old one. However I believe the win10 version relies on Xbox live. So it may end up being a fairly large undertaking. You also have other issues with handling some requests server side I’m sure. So I would imagine this only being a one way train where java clients could play on win10 servers. But not vice versa.

Then you have issues with mods and plugins. Java has those. Win10 I don’t think does (don’t kill me here I use java version).

That’s what I think the issue is. I think it’s stupid they dont have cross version play but I also understand why. The win10 version is very dependent on Windows modules etc and java edition simply works as long as java works.

  2. Because Java edition has different logic, so while some things work in Java they don’t work in bedrock edition (the cross platform version). A while ago there was a promotion that if you had Java edition you’d get Bedrock edition free, but not many people I know bothered even claiming it, let alone installing and swapping over.

  3. The coding is different, and it’s noticed when using world transferring tech as it messes up badly. Also, the better together part is mainly consoles being united. This version was made to unite a bunch of the same version together to play.

  4. Windows 10 or bedrock edition is written in a different language than java, Mostly because it started for consoles. You can see this in places like the different redstone logic/ tic timing. It would be like 1.8 players trying to play on a 1.9 server mechanics wouldn’t work etc.

  5. The offer stands for anyone who owned a java license and activated it before the cut off date. I have two or three accounts eligible to receive the win10 edition but I don’t have enough win10 machines to put it on. Besides there’s no mods for me to enjoy while my kids constantly ask me for help
