  1. I’m still hugely disappointed that the cover of DS isn’t one of his arts like, idk, MGS 2? Would be so much better than the regular cover, even the special edition with the steelcase is pretty meh.

  2. kojima is just one guy. he has a horde of artists, engineers and designers working around him (some whom are more talented and skilled then him in their own fields, but probably enjoy their anonymity/privacy more)

  3. I own a few of his books. Thank you for doing this he deserves more recognition.

I have tried and tried I cannot draw like him.

  4. I read somewhere he is also a comedian! I’ve no idea if that’s true but if so, even more respect to him.

He also designs toys/ model kits, like some new Frame Arms Girls.
I have a hobby magazine that shows all his custom ZoE models he’s made from scratch. I mean, he designed the originals so he knows what he’s doing but even so, it’s cool he can bring them into 3D too.
    All around a cool guy.

  5. Can we take a moment to appreciate that Kojima Productions takes its time to release a game rather than set an end date and hope for the best. #AlwaysHasTheGamersInMind

  6. i love this guy and he will never know it. we will never meet, he will never know my name. his art has influenced me in ways that i cannot right now put into words, he helped shape my childhood.

in some offbeat not happening chance that he comes across this post in some alternate reality, just wanna say thank you

  7. God damn Shinkawa is so good. I loved as a kid flipping through the novel sized booklet in MGS and looking at his art work. I was getting a drawing commmisioned recently and the character is wearing a trench coat, they sent me the first draft and I said they need to go look at how Shinkawa draws trench coats. So much energy and motion in a still image.

  8. He as an amazing art style. I’m debating on looking for a print of his work to frane and put in my room. The MGS2 blue solid snake art is amazing.

  9. His art is what drew my eye to MGS when it came out. His depictions of Snake and Grey Fox caught my young teenaged attention and I had to check the game out. Now here we are so many years later and MGS is arguably my favorite series of the generation.

  10. Yes, this. I always thought of Kojima and Shinkawa as a unit, one for the absurdly good storytelling and gameplay, and one for the absolute beast mechanical modelling, as seen as many bosses such as the metal gears. Both are awesome in their field.

  11. Yoji Shinkawa, Otto Dix, and Ralph Steadman have been my artistic muses throughout my life, forever grateful for their creativity and passion.

  12. Agreed, OP. Shinkawa is the backbone to every major success Kojima has. Without his input, Kojima would be nowhere.

  13. The art of MGS really set the tone of the series, it was serious and a little gritty/dark which really made the characters and story feel more serious despite how tongue in cheek and goofy some events and enemies were
